The phenomenon of Hotel Marrakech is relatively recent. "Hotel Marrakech" has started to be developed as guest houses in a large scale about 10 years ago. They were of course some pioneers in Hotel Marrakech even before but not a lot. Now there are about 800 Hotel Marrakech.

En Australie, un hôtel peut aussi servir des boissons alcoolisées et des repas, habituellement dans un cadre décontracté, mais n’offre pas nécessairement de l’hébergement. On utilise généralement les termes « pub » ou « bar » dans d’autres pays pour désigner ce type d’établissement, mais ces termes sont considérés comme étant des synonymes dans l’usage courant en Australie.
En Inde, le mot « hôtel » peut aussi faire référence à un restaurant puisque les meilleurs restaurants y ont toujours été situés près d’un bon hôtel.
Certains hôtels sont distingués par des écolabel écologiques tel que la Clef Verte ou la fleur, d’autres sont réservés à l’accueil des naturistes ils sont reconnus par la Fédération Française de Naturisme et la Fédération Internationale de Naturisme.
